You feel worthless. You are your harshest critic -- even when something goes right, you don’t feel like you did anything to deserve it. You often feel disappointed with yourself, from the negative ways you imagine others see you, to the internal shame you feel down to your core. You may dream about feeling more confident, less awkward, or free from your self-doubt, but at that same time it seems impossible to change.
You feel alone. Even when you connect with someone, both romantically and in friendship, you worry about when they are going to pull away or leave. Or maybe just when you’re starting to feel comfortable with someone, you’re tempted to cut things off and don’t know why. You may long for someone to finally see you, but simultaneously that feels absolutely terrifying.
You feel out of control. What may seem like a minor inconvenience to some feels like it brings your day to a crashing halt. You may lash out at others who ask you how you’re doing, or after going out with friends, you find yourself repeatedly replaying an embarrassing moment over in your head. It feels like your emotions control you if you allow yourself to connect with your feelings, you may never stop crying or yelling.
You’ve tried therapy before, maybe a solution-focused approach like CBT or DBT. And though the coping skills were nice for a while, it felt like digging a hole with a teaspoon. Work together
We create a schedule based on your availability and desired frequency (typically weekly, or bi-weekly sessions). Therapeutic relationships are built on trust and comfortability, which I try to foster from our first meeting and continue to grow as we work and dig in together.
